Blast
Blast is the title of the second edition of a multi-year project curated by Jessica Bianchera and Marta Ferretti, together with Giulia Costa of Urbs Picta. Blast explores the contemporary collective imagination through videos and moving images.
Blast adopts an open perspective to enquire into the connection between violence, material evidence, and public truth, through the medium of visual arts.
More specifically, Blasts focuses on videos as the privileged tool to document, research, and narrativize violence, understood as a moral, social, and political category – a realm dominated by relativity, and composed of both explicit and of subtle, concealed actions.
By considering some of the main artistic trends which adopt multidisciplinary research methodologies to research and produce images, such as those pertaining to the fields of forensic science, architecture, journalism, and activism, Blast aims at problematising the different modes to perceive, analyse, and reconstruct dynamics of power and violence.
The project reflects on both the collective and individual reconstructions of these episodes, posing specific attention to the digital dimension.
The programme, starting in December 2020, is articulated into 5 areas, each emphasising the importance of contemporary artistic languages as instruments of analysis, social engagement, and cultural development.
